Exhibition Marina Abramović. The Cleaner in Florence at Palazzo Strozzi
From 21 September 2018 to 20 January 2019 Palazzo Strozzi in Florence hosts an exhibition dedicated to Marina Abramović, one of the most celebrated and controversial personalities of contemporary art, who with her works has revolutionized the idea of performance by testing her own body, its limits and its potential for expression.
It is a retrospective that will bring together over 100 works, offering an overview of the most famous works of her career, from the seventies to the 2000s, through videos, photographs, paintings, objects, installations and live performances of her famous performances through a group of performers specifically trained and selected for the exhibition.
The exhibition stems from the direct collaboration with the artist in the will to continue – after Ai Weiwei and Bill Viola – the series of exhibitions that led to the exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi the main representatives of contemporary art. The building will be used, once again, as a single exhibition space, allowing Marina Abramović to confront for the first time with a Renaissance architecture and in which it will be highlighted the close relationship she has had and she continues to have with Italy.
On Saturday, September 22 at 15.30 the artist will be protagonist of the special event already SOLD OUT organized by the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. In conversation with Arturo Galansino, curator of the exhibition and general director of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, the artist will tackle some of the themes of her existential and creative path, retracing the stages of her career from the beginning in Serbia to the last great performances all over the world.
