Exhibition Ai Weiwei. Libero at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence

The exhibition Ai Weiwei. Libero will be held in Florence from 23rd September 2016 until 22nd January 2017. There will be present historical masterpieces and new works of the Chinese artist that will involve the whole space of Palazzo Strozzi for the first time: the facade, the courtyard, the Plan noble and the Strozzina.

The masterpieces on display will come from the collections of New York, Venice and other international museums which have names such as Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Man Ray and the so-called European informal as Alberto Burri, Emilio Vedova, Jean Dubuffet, Lucio Fontana, along with great paintings and sculptures by some of the major figures in the American art of the fifties and sixties such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Cy Twombly.

How is the show structured? It will be a journey through monumental installations, sculptures and objects symbol of his career, videos and photography series by a strong political and symbolic impact that will immerse you in the world of art and personal biography of Ai Weiwei. The works on display will range from the New York period between the eighties and nineties during which he discovers the art of his “masters” Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp to the great iconic works of the new millennium made of assemblies of materials and objects such as bicycles and stools, until policies and controversial works that have marked the last days of his artistic production, such as the portraits of political dissidents built with LEGO bricks or the recent projects on migration in the Mediterranean region.
