F-Light Festival: Christmas lights in Florence

With the Firenze Light Festival the monuments and squares of the city will be covered of coloured lights from December 8^th to January 6^th 2019. The event, located in various monuments and squares of the city, offers video-mapping, projections, light games, artistic installations, educational activities and meetings.

This year, the theme of the event is the genius of Leonardo da Vinci, of which, in 2019, are celebrated the five hundred years of death.

As usual, many spaces of the city will be involved: first of all Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Vecchio, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, Piazza Santa Maria Novella and the Oltrarno, with a particular attention to the Towers and the city gates and the neighbourhoods outside the historic centre. At the centre of F-light there is always light, a source of universal energy. The title of this year evokes the illumination of the mind, the thought that overcomes the limits of knowledge to dare the new, to experiment, to innovate. Therefore, the symbols of the festival will be the flame that lights up a lamp in the night, the filament that warms up, the neural network that lights up.

As usual, F-Light will also be an opportunity to offer a new permanent lighting to some monuments or places of the city: after donating a new lighting system to the Loggia del Pesce, to the Basilica of Santa Croce, to Piazza Ghiberti and to the Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio, also this year F-light will bring a new light in some of the most important and suggestive symbols of Florence.
